Lumbee Recognition
Jacob E. Pate, as a Lumbee, is extremely excited on this chapter of federal recognition. Martha Hunt Fisher, his maternal grandmother, fought hard alongside other Lumbees for tribal recognition. She has passed down this knowledge to Mr. Pate, who plans to have the local history taught to the children in Scotland County. He believes you can not teach Scotland County history without teaching about Lumbee Native Americans. He plans to put a huge focus on Local history, the Federalist Papers, the United States Constitution, and the original Bill of Rights so students can get as much information about their history in America with no ideological lenses. We celebrate #575!
